Russian Blues

The Russian Blue is an old breed thought to originate in northern Russia. Though short-haired, they have a beautiful dense “double coat,” tipped with silver, which shimmers in the light.

They have striking eyes which can range from emerald-green to pale green/gold. They tend to be fine-boned, but muscular, with long legs and a long tapering tail.

Russian Blues have sweet faces with large ears and a beatific expression. It is often said that they appear to be smiling! The females are quite small, ranging from six to eight pounds. The males are larger, weighing up to ten pounds.

When well socialized, they tend to be friendly and quite loyal. Russian Blues may be a little shy around strangers, but warm up quickly. They are great family companions, getting along well with children and dogs. They are very athletic, playful, and intelligent, and love to jump to high places and watch the happenings around them.

In many ways, the Russian Blue is an ideal family companion for today’s homes and lifestyles. Although warm and affectionate, they are undemanding and are happy to entertain themselves. They require minimum grooming, and despite their thick fur, do not shed excessively. Russian Blues tend to be a healthy breed with no genetic defects.

Howzabluz Cats

Our Cats

After being the proud owners of beautiful show cats for many years, Howzabluz started our own breeding program in 2022.

Having adopted two beautiful Russian Blue boys from Valnika cattery, including RW, BW, SGCA Valnika’s Will Robinson, we acquired two lovely girls for breeding: CH Valnika’s Amelia Island Girl and GCH Valnika’s Katrine of Howzabluz. We were delighted to adopt a male for breeding from Privet cattery, RW QGC Privet Volodymyr of Howzabluz and a female for breeding from Starblue cattery, RW GC Starblue’s Athena of Howzabluz.

Our Kittens

Howzabluz is a small and home-based cattery. We periodically have kittens available for adoption, although we only have a few litters a year.

When kittens become available, they will go home at four months, following administration of vaccinations, and spaying or neutering. Kittens will be available only for homes where the owners will agree to keep the kittens strictly indoors.

All of our cats’ pedigrees are registered with the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) and our kittens will come from championship bloodlines.

We would be happy to provide guidance and support for anyone who would like to be introduced to the world of cat shows. Some kittens may be more suitable for showing than others, but we anticipate that all will make excellent house pets.
